Contribution by Gerald Knaus. Video: WellesleyCollege

ESI's Gerald Knaus participated in a conference on "From Exodus to Action: Claiming our Common Humanity in the Refugee Crisis" at the Albright Institute at Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. He spoke at the panel "Beyond Resettlement: A Paradigm Shift to Meet Full Need". In his contribution he spoke about the current situation of refugees in the Central Mediterranean and what elements a credible policy on asylum and border management would need to entails. Such a policy must combine effective control of external land and sea borders with respect for existing international and EU refugee law.

Alan Grant is an Irish photographer who travelled extensively in the Balkans and other countries and regions of the world. Thanks to him, ESI is able to show fascinating pictures of the Balkans: the facades of Tirana, the painted mosques of Travnik, the fabulous old houses of Plovdiv and the spectacular blue of water - dark in the Bay of Kotor, emerald in the river valleys of Bosnia, deep blue in Ohrid, twinkling in the Aegean Sea and on the Bosporus.
