Social system

Social system

This section contains information on different aspects of social policy in Bosnia, including social welfare, health and education. A DFID project provides detailed case studies of municipal social welfare mechanisms, particularly the Centres for Social Work. The article by Paul Stubbs, Social Sector or the Diminution of Social Policy, from 2001 provides a critical study of the historical and institutional background to social policy. We have included an Analysis and Proposal for the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy in Tuzla Canton produced by the OSCE's Cantonal Assistance Program in September 2002 – just one example of various shorter reports produced by the CAP programme.

There is a World Bank study on Veterans' Programs in BiH and a Council of Europe report on Governance, Finance and Administration in the education sector. A DFID project produced consolidated Health Resource Accounts for all of BiH in 1999, which is now dated but remains the most recent compilation of health data. UNHCR has produced a study on Health Care in BiH in the Context of Return of Refugees and Displaced Persons and UNDP contributes recent studies on Youth in BiH 2003 and Female Headed Households in BiH.

The World Bank's PEIR also includes detailed information on education, health and social welfare - see the section on Public Finances. Other information is also available in the PRSP.
