ESI Deputy Chairman Kristof Bender participated at an international conference on peace operations and state building organised by Tel Aviv University and Science-Po from 31 October to 2 November in Tel Aviv. The conference explored different experiences from the Balkans, Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Kristof gave a presentation on the role of foreign actors in the successful containment of Macedonia's 2001 conflict and the subsequent successful implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement for Peace.

Alan Grant is an Irish photographer who travelled extensively in the Balkans and other countries and regions of the world. Thanks to him, ESI is able to show fascinating pictures of the Balkans: the facades of Tirana, the painted mosques of Travnik, the fabulous old houses of Plovdiv and the spectacular blue of water - dark in the Bay of Kotor, emerald in the river valleys of Bosnia, deep blue in Ohrid, twinkling in the Aegean Sea and on the Bosporus.
