ESI's Gerald Knaus was on a three-day visit to Pristina for a series of events and meetings on visas, migration and EU conditionality.

At a joint policy workshop with the Council of Europe on Kosovar migrants, EU borders, poverty and visa-free travel, Gerald and ESI senior analyst Besa Shahini gave several presentations and discussed policy options with the participants.

Gerald and Besa had meetings with the Kosovar Minister of EU integration, Bekim Collaku and with MPs from the Vetevendosje Movement, to discuss visa liberalization process for Kosovo and migration from Kosovo. In addition, Gerald briefed the staff at the Swedish embassy on EU credibility and the need for strict and fair evaluations in yearly progress reports.

Alan Grant is an Irish photographer who travelled extensively in the Balkans and other countries and regions of the world. Thanks to him, ESI is able to show fascinating pictures of the Balkans: the facades of Tirana, the painted mosques of Travnik, the fabulous old houses of Plovdiv and the spectacular blue of water - dark in the Bay of Kotor, emerald in the river valleys of Bosnia, deep blue in Ohrid, twinkling in the Aegean Sea and on the Bosporus.
