Turkish womens groups attack draft constitution (in English)
Being invited to the BBC's Woman's Hour programm, Gerald discussed Turkey's new draft constitution and its implications for Turkish women with Nukhet Sirman of the Women's Platform for a New Constitution. Citing ESI's report 'Sex and Power in Turkey. Feminism, Islam and the Maturing of Turkish Democracy' he pointed out that while Turkey is still a long way from gender equality, reforming the penal code, tackling the issue of "honor killings" or for the first time providing women's shelters represents progress inconceivable only a very short time ago.
