Enver Hoxhaj is a former civil society activist who became active in Kosovo politics, joining the PDK in 2004. Originally from Suha Reka, a rural municipality in Western Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj's parents migrated to Switzerland for work. He went to study at Vienna University (1994 to 2000), where he received his doctorate in history. Later he also lectured at the London School of Economics.
Since January 2008 he is Minister of Education, Science and Technology. The importance of education as a tool for social change and reform has always been his personal passion. He pushes hard to put education at the top of the government's priorities:
"As a new government, we have defined education as out highest national priority. That is why it is not only the task of the ministry, which I lead, but it is the responsibility of the whole government, to support education. We will try by all means, because of a larger budget that we have this year, to develop some specific curricula in the short and medium term, to have people who are able to work abroad, but also to have people to be attractive for future investors."
