For the second time in two months, ESI's Gerald Knaus visited The Gambia from 23 July to 27 July 2019 to discuss ways to address the most emotive issues in European politics today: how to prevent migrants drowning in the Mediterranean; how to stop the suffering of migrants in Libyan detention centres; and how to approach deportations of Africans are not granted asylum in European countries
The first day was filled with meetings such as with MP Halifa Sallah as well as the president of the Gambian Youtch Council Lamin Darboe who explained his vision for a truly liberal democracy in The Gambia, the role of activism of the young and the importance of European contacts.
During the next two days, Gerald also met with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Information and Technology, and Youth and Sports as well as members of civil society and diplomats from European countries.
