Christopher Bennett Christopher Bennett (UK/Slovenia) was ESI's first deputy chairman from 1999 to 2001. He has a lifetime of experience in the Balkans. Having covered the collapse of the former Yugoslavia and the wars in Croatia and Bosnia as a journalist from 1991, his book Yugoslavia's Bloody Collapse (Hurst, London, 1995) is an influential account of the Yugoslav crisis. Chris has been instrumental in numerous research projects on the region, as director of the International Crisis Group's Balkans Project, as editor of the Balkan Crisis Reports of the Institute for War and Peace Reporting and as editor of the NATO Review. Chris worked for the Office of the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina as Communications Director in 2006/2007, and became head of the OHR Banja Luka Office in July 2009. He is also completing a book on the Bosnian peace process entitled Paralysed Peace. He used to teach Yugoslav history at the University of London's School of Slavonic and East European Studies.
