Enis and Rolf in Urfa - Gaziantep


In the autumn of 2004, ESI began research on the industrial development of Gaziantep, an Anatolian tiger city on the Syrian border that has grown rapidly in recent years.

Verena, Erkut, Enis and Rolf Paasch (previously correspondent for major German dailies in London, Washington and the Balkans) spent weeks interviewing industrialists, local politicians and state officials. ESI analyst Özsel Beleli, who had worked for some years in the ancient city of Urfa, examined the impact of the South East Anatolia Project (GAP) on local development.
