Capacity Building Seminars for young reseachers in Macedonia

6 March 2004

Realising the relative absence of policy-oriented research in the region undertaken by people from the region itself, ESI and the Foundation Open Society Institute – Macedonia organized two policy research workshops (each 2 days long) for young Macedonian reseachers in Ohrid.

The aim was to support the development of domestic policy institutes. The participants applied after reading the announcement in the Macdonia newspapers Utrinski Vesnik and Fakti and were chosen by Kristof Bender (ESI analyst) and Fani Karanfilova (FOSIM). We asked for people that were interested in policy oriented research, have a university degree, at least passive understanding of English and that are not older than 35 years.

Both seminars were conducted with 10 people each, and the good mood and athmosphere can be seen on the pictures taken (see our photoalbum). New working relations within the Macedonians have been established, and we will soon see first results of a genuine local research.
