ESI's Kristof Bender participated at the "Europe's Futures Cres Symposium 2021" organised by the Institut for Human Sciences (IWM) from Vienna in co-operation with University of Rijeka's Center for Advanced Studies in Southeastern Europe (CAS) from 21 to 23 June 2021 on the Croatian Island of Cres.

Kristof spoke at a session on "Missing pages of European history: The European Union's historic role in why Western Balkans enlargement is stuck". Topics discussed in other sessions included lessons of the Prespa Agreement, the situation of the media in Central and Eastern Europe, and the state of democracy in different parts of Europe.
