Berlin – ESI at discussion on flight and migration with former mayor of Berlin
ESI’s Gerald Knaus spoke at a public event on “Migration and Flight – Between Border Controls, Deportations, Skills Shortages, and Openness to the World” organised by the Social Democratic MP Michael Müller and former governing mayor of Berlin, as part of the event series ‘Politics, Culture, Conversations’.
Gerald described the challenge that migration and forced displacement pose to societies and governments, emphasising the importance of a humane and effective approach. He stressed the need to revive the EU-Turkey statement, which significantly reduced irregular crossings and deaths during its initial years of implementation.
He further advocated for the creation of additional safe third-country agreements to improve migration management, ensure fair and humane asylum processes, establish humane borders, and provide legal pathways for migration.
