Rome – ESI at the Foreign Press Association: "Transparency in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The way forward"

ESI's Gerald Knaus presented the latest developments and the recent debate around transparency in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) at the Foreign Press Association in Rome. 

Following recent allegations of corruption against Luca Volontè, a former PACE member, the Assembly was under pressure to formulate an appropriate response. In an unprecedented move, during the last PACE session in late April, the Bureau of the Assembly approved a proposal for the set-up of an external commission of inquiry. The Bureau also declared it has 'no confidence' in Pedro Agramunt as President, a reaction triggered by his recent visit to Syria
