Twilight of Heroes –
Croatia, Europe and the International Tribunal

Saturday, 10 November 2012, 13:15-14:15

University of Graz, RESOWI, Universitätsstrasse 15, 8010 Graz, Austria
Building section A, 2nd floor, room 1521

This documentary tells the riveting story of the next member state of the European Union: how Croatia, isolated in late 1999, broke out of its isolation, came to terms with its recent past, opened up to the rest of Europe and its neighbours and in the end convinced the rest of Europe that it was ready to join the EU. All the major protagonists have been interviewed for this film – presidents, prime ministers, international prosecutors, nationalists and Europeanisers. The film is also a reminder how the European idea can be an inspiration for dramatic change.

This documentary film by Gerald Knaus and Fritz Ofner is based on ESI research and part of the "Return to Europe" film series (www.returntoeurope.org), initiated and supported by ERSTE Foundation.

The film screening will be followed by a short question and answer session with ESI deputy chairman Kristof Bender, moderated by Florian Bieber, director of the Centre for Southeast European Studies, before the first afternoon panel of the conference resumes at 14.15 in the same room.
