In the last decade LGBT rights have emerged as an integral part of the EU legal framework on combatting discrimination.
The ESI documentary "Lost in Translation – Moldova" tells the story of how EU conditionality has empowered NGO's fight for equal rights and changes in legislation in 2012. It is the story of a country caught between the EU and an increasingly authoritarian, homophobic East, with LGBT rights at the center of this struggle.
How could EU leverage – in the context of Turkey's EU visa liberalization process and its accession talks – help efforts to improve the situation of the LGBT community in Turkey? Are there lessons from Eastern Europe for Turkey?
Film screening: Return to Europe Series: Moldova – Lost in Transition
Introductory remarks: Gerald Knaus, ESI chairman and director of the film
Discussion: Nigar Goksel, ESI senior analyst and editor of TPQ
