Heather Brown (former staff)
Heather Brown (USA) joined ESI in July 2014, where she is currently researching and writing on human rights in Azerbaijan and the impact of U.S. torture and rendition policies on the European human rights system. Prior to joining ESI, Heather worked as a grant writer and grants manager for America Abroad Media (AAM) in Washington DC, supporting media development projects in the Middle East, South Asia and Turkey. Heather was also a researcher at Pew Research Center’s Project on Journalism, and a graduate research associate at the Arab Studies Institute (ASI) at Georgetown University. Heather earned a BA in history from James Madison University and a Masters degree in political science from George Mason University, where her research focused on social movement theory, political Islam, and mobilization in the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey. She is based in Berlin and Istanbul.
