Paul Hockenos (former staff)
Paul Hockenos (USA) is a Berlin-based analyst and author who has written about South Eastern Europe since 1989. He worked for ESI as a Berlin-based analyst in 2002 and 2003. His articles and commentaries have appeared in World Policy Journal, The New Statesman, The Nation, Christian Science Monitor, as well as many other periodicals in Europe and North America. Hockenos is the author of "Free to Hate: The Rise of the Right in Post-Communist Eastern Europe" (Routledge) and "Homeland Calling: Exile Patriotism and the Balkans Wars" (Cornell University Press). From 1997 to 1999, he worked with the OSCE in Bosnia on press and media issues. Since then, Paul has been a visiting fellow at the American Academy in Berlin and the European Journalism College at the Free University Berlin. He is currently Global Editor at Internationale Politik, Germany's foremost foreign affairs periodical. His latest book is "Joschka Fischer and the making of the Berlin Republic: An Alternative History of Postwar Germany" (Oxford University Press).
