Being invited to the BBC's Woman's Hour programm, Gerald discussed Turkey's new draft constitution and its implications for Turkish women with Nukhet Sirman of the Women's Platform for a New Constitution. Citing ESI's report Sex and Power in Turkey. Feminism, Islam and the Maturing of Turkish Democracy he pointed out that while Turkey is still a long way from gender equality, reforming the penal code, tackling the issue of "honor killings" or for the first time providing women's shelters represents progress inconceivable only a very short time ago.
