On 14 November 2012, ESI Senior Analyst Alexandra Stiglmayer spoke at a debate and photo exhibition organised in Brussels by the Ukrainian NGO "Europe without barriers". At the event called "Visas? What's the Reason?", she discussed the new increase in asylum seekers from the Western Balkans and the impact that this has on current and future EU-led visa liberalisation processes, such as those ongoing with Ukraine, Moldova and Kosovo, and the process envisaged for Turkey. The photos were black and white portraits of prominent Ukrainians whose visa applications were rejected. Other speakers were Oleksandr Sushko, Iryna Sushko and Maryana Kuzio from Europe without Barriers and Joanna Fomina from the Visa-free Europe Coalition.
