Frankfurt – ESI at panel discussion on the Geneva Refugee Convention 70 years on and what to do now
20 February 2021
ESI’s Gerald Knaus was invited to speak at an online panel discussion organised by Interkulturelle Woche, on “Asylum Policy Perspectives for Germany and Europe”, to discuss "push-backs" in the Mediterranean, the untenable conditions in refugee camps in Greece and Bosnia-Herzegovina and the necessary political steps to improve the situation.
Gerald explained ESI’s ideas and policy recommendations for EU asylum and migration policy, the current situation of refugees, the cooperation needed between EU member states, and the renewal of the EU-Turkey Statement.
The other speakers were Marie von Manteuffel (Ärzte ohne Grenzen) and Günter Burkhardt (PRO ASYL). The debate was moderated by Pitt von Bebenburg (Frankfurter Rundschau).
