Sofia – ESI presentations on the Syrian refugee crisis and history education and politics

ESI's Gerald Knaus was invited to speak at a conference entitled "Internal and external dimensions of the refugee crisis in Europe: Solidarity crisis or EU's foreign policy crisis" oganised by ECFR Sofia. Speakers included Nickolay Mladenov, United Nations Secretary-General's Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process; Bassam Al-Kuwatli, Syrian political expert and conflict management specialist; Roumen Alexandrov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bulgaria; Sinan Ülgen, Chairman, Center for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies (EDAM) and Visiting Scholar, Carnegie Europe; Svetlomira Gyurova, Capital; Vessela Tcherneva, Head of ECFR's Sofia Office; Almut Möller, Head of ECFR Berlin Office; Dzhema Grozdanova, Chairperson of the Foreign Policy Affairs at the National Assembly; Ognyan Minchev, Director of Institute for Regional and International Studies; Boyko Vassilev, Host and producer of Panorama news talk show, Bulgarian National Television.

Gerald also gave interviews on Bulgarian radio and TV.

On the first day of his visit to Sofia, Gerald also gave a presentation at the Center for Liberal Strategies on ESI research on history education and politics drawing on examples from the ESI report Teaching War – How Croatian schoolbooks changed and why it matters.
