ESI starts research in Azerbaijan

On October 1st, the ESI team began its research work in Azerbaijan. ESI's work in Azerbaijan will focus on gender issues in the following context: the impact of the countries' economic and social transformation following the collapse of Soviet system on women's position.

During their stay in Azerbaijan, Arzu Geybullayeva, the local analyst, together with Nigar Göksel, held several interviews with government institutions such as the State Committee on Women, Family and Children Issues, as well as NGOs, international organizations and parties such as Gender Research Institute, Democracy and Women Rights Protection Center, Women Monitoring Group, UNICEF, UNFPA, UN Information Department, International Republic Institute (IRI), and Institute for Reporter Freedom and Safety (IRFS), and the Democratic Reforms Party.

The following individuals also shared their insights on the current gender situation in Azerbaijan: Yelena Kasumova from the Gender Information Center, Mehriban Vezir from the Women Monitoring Group, Zemfira Verdiyeva from the Azerbaijan Women Association, and Novella Jafaroglu from the Dilara Aliyeva Society for Protection of Women Rights.
