Warsaw – ESI team retreat on upcoming research on the rule of law, migration and EU enlargement
The ESI team conducts research in different countries, meaning that we do not often all work in one place. Therefore, the ESI team met in Warsaw for two days of catching up, seminars, walks, and bicycle rides.
Our seminar took place in the beautiful gardens of Otwarty Jazdów - home to local residents and NGOs. We were given a tour of this unique place and learned about its history.
During the workshops we discussed the issues that we have been working on and upcoming papers, such as: EU strategy towards Turkey after the election, and what the European Commission must do to win the fight for the rule of law in Poland. Brainstorming sessions and working in groups helped us generate fresh ideas and new perspectives.
The ESI team also met with the head of the European Council of Foreign Relations (ECFR) in Poland, Piotr Buras who updated us on the political situation in Poland ahead of the October elections.
We ended our stay in Warsaw with a visit to the beautiful neighbourhood of Saska Kępa, where we enjoyed a jazz concert.
