Europe without Borders – will the dream last? The Future of Schengen and visa freedom in Europe

Border controls are a thing of the past today among most European countries – British tourists to the continent also benefit from this. However, the Arab Spring and recent visa-free travel for Balkans countries have brought increased pressure from migrants and asylum claimants. A few EU states closed their borders, and now some interior ministers want to re-introduce visas. How will these developments impact on the UK's borders? Could the UK government's plans to restrict free movement make any difference? Is Europe without borders likely to last?
