Berlin – ESI at the Demography and Sustainability Congress

ESI’s Gerald Knaus was invited to participate in the Demography and Sustainability Congress on the topic of “New Migration: Skilled and Labour Immigration – Strategies and Solutions”, organised by the Institute for Economic and Social Affairs (WISO)

In his presentation, Gerald spoke about the motivations of migrants coming to Europe, and how Germany and the EU deal with new arrivals. He also described the opportunities and risks for refugees, as well as the implications for society and for the EU labour market.

Additionally, Gerald emphasised the need to adopt practices and policies that ensure the humane treatment of migrants. He advocated for the establishment of a coherent migration policy which crucial for facilitating the successful integration of migrants into both society and the labour market.

The other discussants were Ann-Veruschka Jurisch (Member of the German Bundestag, FDP, Berlin), Friedrich Kiesinger (Managing Director, Albatros gGmbH, Head of various refugee facilities in Berlin) and Steffen Sottung (Managing Director of the International Affairs Division, Federal Employment Agency, Nuremberg). The panel was moderated by Nicola Brandt (Director, OECD Berlin Centre, Berlin).
